About this collection
Which sporran do you need?
A kilt has no pockets, so the sporran does that job, and it also says a lot about how formal the outfit is. It hangs from a chain or leather strap around the hips and sits at the front of the kilt, a hand's width or so below the belt buckle.
Leather sporrans are day sporrans: plain or tooled leather, ideal with tweed and utility outfits and at Highland games. Semi-dress sporrans add fur or a decorative cantle and suit an Argyll outfit or a daytime wedding. Full dress sporrans are the most formal, with a decorative metal top and long tassels, and belong with a Prince Charlie at evening events.
Materials change the look: sealskin and rabbit fur give a soft, natural finish, horsehair sporrans have the long, flowing hair seen in ceremonial dress, and tartan sporrans can be matched to your kilt. Pair your sporran with a kilt belt and buckle to finish the look.
