About this collection

Choosing the right kilt

A kilt is one of the few things in a wardrobe that can last for decades, so it is worth choosing with care. Every kilt in this collection is made after you order, to your waist, hip and length measurements, rather than picked off a size rail. That is what lets it sit properly at the waist and hang cleanly at the knee.

The range covers four broad families. Tartan kilts carry a clan, family or district tartan and are the right choice for weddings, Burns suppers and formal Highland occasions. Utility kilts swap tartan for practical cloth and pockets for work, festivals and everyday wear. Hybrid kilts mix the two, while leather, denim and tactical kilts take the shape in a different direction altogether.

If this is your first kilt, a traditional tartan kilt covers the most occasions. Choose the yardage next (8 yard for the fullest, most traditional swing, 5 yard for a lighter everyday kilt), then the tartan, then the accessories. Our kilt buying guide walks through each step.

Common questions

Kilts FAQs

Is every kilt really made to measure?
Yes. Each kilt is cut and stitched after you order, using the waist, hip and length measurements you give us. The size guide shows exactly where to place the tape.
What is the difference between an 8 yard and a 5 yard kilt?
Yardage is the length of cloth used. An 8 yard kilt has deep pleats all the way round the back and the heavy, traditional swing you see at formal events. A 5 yard kilt uses less cloth, so it is lighter and cooler for everyday wear.
Which kilt is best for a wedding?
A traditional tartan kilt in an 8 yard make, worn with a Prince Charlie or Argyll jacket. Our kilt outfits put the whole look together.
How long does a kilt take to arrive?
Each kilt is made to order, so there is a making time before it ships. The estimated delivery dates for standard and rush orders are shown on every product page.
